The Paralegal Department faculty is composed of esteemed and experienced attorneys who are specialists in their legal fields. Today we are showcasing Professor Aicha Cesar. Professor Aicha Cesar is a member of the Paralegal Department faculty who teaches Legal Research and Writing, Immigration Law, and Business Law, Professor Cesar earned a Bachelor of Arts in French from The College of William and Mary, a Master of Arts in Social Science from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and a Juris Doctor in Law from Dartmouth Law School. Her legal interests and specialty are in immigration, international human rights, and political asylum. She received her training regarding refugee law and United States foreign policy on international law on the migration of displaced peoples from two international non-profit organizations: International Rescue Committee and Catholic Charities. Her legal experience in immigration matters was advanced while employed by the Manhattan law firm Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen and Loewy. Ms. Cesar is a specialist in French legal translation and interpreting and has volunteered her legal translation and interpreting services for Sanctuary for Families, a domestic violence non-profit organization.

Bramson ORT College Paralegal Department News

Bramson ORT College is joining the New York City Paralegal Association as a sustaining member. Each month, two paralegal students will attend the association’s meetings, networking events, and social programs featuring law firms and certified paralegals.

Legal Research and Writing students are taking a field trip to the Brooklyn Law Library on August 6, 2013. They will meet with a law librarian, tour the library, and review available research facilities and resources. Professor Aicha Cesar is very dedicated to her students. She is planning a special class on the basics of briefing a case. Reviewing, analyzing, and understanding cases are essential skills for all paralegals and will assist paralegal students in mastering these tasks.

The 2nd Moot Court Competition is underway with a Torts fact pattern. Students are preparing to submit written briefs on the case and make oral arguments in front of the Paralegal Department faculty. The Competition provides students with an opportunity to polish their written and verbal communication skills as well as engage in a friendly simulation of legal argument.

Bramson ORT's Faculty Pioneer the Latest in Educational Technology

In a recent 3D Character Modeling and Animation Workshop, Bramson ORT College's gaming and design students participated in the Annual Wingate Seminar in collaboration with ORT UK.  This year's popular topic was “Gaming and Gamification.”  The focus was on the use of the latest gaming technology as an educational and motivational tool beyond entertainment purposes.  The class discussed current trends in "serious gaming" including some recent news about gamers decoding and unlocking the fundamental mysteries of certain diseases using a multiplayer game called Foldit.  The gamers were able to make a significant contribution to the medical field through innovative approaches to problem solving with the use of games and teamwork.

During the workshop, Professor of 3D Animation, Dominika Juraszek, discussed the latest in 3D technology.  Ms. Juraszek introduced Professor Douglas Huang who teaches electronics at Bramson ORT College.  With both of his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and currently conducting his Doctoral study in Human Cognition at Columbia University, Professor Huang brings exciting new ways of learning abstract concepts in science and technology. Using the latest in theory in human cognition and haptic-based human-computer interaction (HCI), Mr. Huang helps students learn according to their strengths and needs.  In order to help students gain stronger physics fundamentals, Mr. Huang used a three-dimensional force feedback joystick called the Novint Falcon.  This controller is one of the latest developments in haptic-based human computer interaction that can demonstrate force in different settings so that students can experience the actual phenomena while learning different physics laws.  The Novint Falcon allows the gamer to feel a realistic sense of touch while playing.  The controller can also be used as an instructional tool to simulate a realistic feeling of pressure in a gaming environment.
