Paralegal Department at Bramson ORT College

Have you got your mind set on becoming a lawyer? Students who are interested in pursuing a career in law often assume that law school and becoming a lawyer is the only path they have to follow. However, there are many other opportunities available in this field that aspiring law students should research and consider before making a final decision.

A paralegal is another career opportunity that we recommend considering if you're interested in studying law. If you're unaware of the specifics that come with being a paralegal, a job description is as follows:

A paralegal is an individual trained in legal matters that can perform a variety of tasks to assist attorneys. They complete legal paper work, conduct research, organize files, draft documents and more to assist lawyers as they get ready for their hearings or meetings.

At Bramson ORT College, we offer an exceptional paralegal program that introduces students to the nature of the job. Students are given instruction in both theoretical and practical aspects of law and are prepared to enter any law office setting upon completing the program.

To earn a Paralegal Associate Degree, students are required to complete 60 credits. Class requirements include, but are not limited to, Real Estate Law, Legal Research, Analysis and Writing, Law Office Practice/Management and Word Processing 1. In addition to satisfying these course requirements, students must also complete a legal internship at a law firm to build their experience in the field.

Are You Interested in our Paralegal Program?

Bramson Ort College's Paralegal Department ensures that its students and graduates will succeed in law firms specializing in Wills, Trusts & Estates.

To help our students on their path to success, the Probate and Estate Administration course focuses on all aspects of New York State's Surrogate's Court practice and prevailing estate planning and administration laws, forms, and actions.  In this class, students gain a solid foundation in relevant terminology, issues, and concepts regarding the laws of intestacy (dying without a Last Will and Testament) versus dying testate (with a Will).

Furthermore, the course identifies the ways property may be conveyed outside or within an administration proceeding and the tax consequences of all transfers. A visitor to our class will hear lively and in-depth discussions on real-world fact patterns and ethical considerations in every lesson. Ultimately, the student develops the practical skills needed for a thriving career in this growing legal field.

Submitted by Sol Sokel, Esq. of the Paralegal Department.
